Dr. Eileen Yue-Ling Han is a master acupuncturist, internationally respected educator, and the chosen successor of Dr. Richard Teh-Fu Tan, the founder of the Balance Method Acupuncture. With deep clinical expertise and a gift for teaching, Dr. Han has become the leading force in continuing and expanding the legacy of Balance Method Acupuncture around the world.
Born and raised in Taiwan, Eileen benefited early on from a working education with the best practitioners. During 15 years of immersion in her family’s acupuncture needle and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) supplies business, she also received invaluable practical experience that served as the foundation for her work today.
Dr. Han began her journey as a devoted student of Dr. Richard Tan in 1999, eventually becoming his closest teaching partner and senior apprentice. Over 20 years, she co-taught over 350 seminars and workshops alongside him in Europe, Asia, and Americas, helped refine and deliver the core curriculum, and played an integral role in translating his teachings into a globally accessible system.
Before his passing in 2015, Dr. Tan personally entrusted Dr. Han with the responsibility of carrying his life’s work forward, naming her the official torch bearer of Balance Method Acupuncture.
Dr. Han holds a Master’s Degree in Oriental Medicine from the University of East/West Medicine in Sunnyvale, CA. , as well as a Ph.D. in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from American Liberty University in Newport Beach. As a student, she honed her focus in internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, traumatology, and external medicine. During this time, she also received essential training in Western medicine and practice management.
She has treated thousands of patients using the Balance Method with consistently outstanding results. She supplements her formal education and practical experience with continuing studies in herbology and face diagnosis to bring a truly holistic approach to treating patients.
To honor Dr. Tan’s legacy, Dr. Han co-found Si Yuan with Delphine Armand (a fellow apprentice of Dr. Tan), with the support of Paul Wang, in 2015 in Taiwan.
To continue Dr. Tan’s mission of spreading authentic, effective acupuncture, in 2018, Dr. Han found the Academy of Acupuncture, the official educational platform for Balance Method training. The Academy was later renamed to Dr Han School of Acupuncture. Through the platform, she has developed:
“The Balance Method is a robust system. It can profoundly change the way you understand the meridians and acupuncture. Think of it as an operating system, for your computer or digital devices. Let it sink in and become the framework of your practice. You may have learned other techniques before or may learn more in the future, and they can be the apps that run on your robust operating system that is Dr Tan’s Balance Method.” —Dr Eileen Han
Dr. Han has held numerous live seminars nationally and internationally in cities including New York, Chicago, Austin, Seattle, San Diego, San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, Montreal, Santiago (Chile), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Madrid, Barcelona, Athens, Rosenberg, Amsterdam, Rennes, Melbourne, Tokyo, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Beijing, Shanghai, and more. She has also led volunteer medical missions to Madagascar, Nepal, Costa Rica, Peru, and Vietnam.
More than a teacher, Dr. Han is a community builder. Under her leadership, a vibrant international network of Balance Method practitioners has emerged—supported by ongoing education, professional forums, case study groups, and peer mentorship. She empowers practitioners not only to treat with precision but also to lead with compassion and clarity.
Dr. Han remains unwavering in her commitment to preserving the integrity of Dr. Tan’s teachings while helping practitioners evolve and thrive in today’s clinical landscape. Every course she offers and every practitioner she certifies carries forward the spirit of Balance Method Acupuncture: logical, effective, immediate, and deeply rooted in tradition.
Dr. Eileen Han continues to inspire thousands of acupuncturists around the world. Whether you are a practitioner looking to learn the Balance Method for the first time or a patient seeking treatment from a trained professional, Dr. Han’s leadership ensures that the Balance Method remains as powerful and relevant today as it was when Dr. Tan first taught it.
